Volunteering at RCHS!
We are currently
transitioning and
modifying our
volunteer program so
we ask that you are
patient with us as
we get our new
processes in place!
If you're
interested in
volunteering at the
Rutland County
Humane Society, we
would love to have
you join us!
We currently have
more than 220 volunteers
who are so valuable
to us. But we can always
use more help! As
we like to say, we
couldn't do it
without our
volunteers!
In order to
volunteer at RCHS
you must be 14 years
old or older. This
is due to our
insurance coverage.
If you are younger
than 14 and would
like to help the
animals at RCHS,
here are some ideas:
Collect items for
the animals. Click
here to see our wish
list.
Make items for the
animals (dog
biscuits for the
dogs and catnip toys
for the cats are
favorites!).
Collect money to
help pay for the
animals and the
programs at RCHS.
We have two types of
volunteer
opportunities at
RCHS. The first is
for people who are
interested in
volunteering for
personal fulfillment
or professional
development.
The second is for
people who need to
do court mandated
or school
required
community service.
(Please note:
We do not currently
have any volunteer
opportunities for
Court Mandated
community service.
When we do you will
see a note on this
webpage).
Getting Started
The first step in
becoming a volunteer
at RCHS is to fill
out an application.
Click
here for the
Volunteer
Application or
here for the
Community Service
Application.
When it's completed
please mail it to
Jessica Danyow at
RCHS, 765 Stevens
Road, Pittsford,
VT 05763.
If you are applying
for non-Community
Service
volunteering, you
will receive an
acknowledgement of
your application by
mail.
Depending on your
interests, we will
be in contact with
you as necessary.
If you are
interested in
walking dogs or
socializing cats, a
minimum commitment
of 4 hours per month
will be required.
Additionally, a
mandatory training
session will be held.
You will be notified
by mail about the
dates and details of
the training
session.
Non-Community
Service volunteer
opportunities
include dog walking,
cat socializing,
fostering
animals,
transporting pets to
a veterinarian
appointment, special
events, help with
mailings, distributing
posters, general
maintenance and dog
bank and donation
bin collections.
These opportunities
are described in
more depth on the
Volunteer
Application.
If you are applying
for non-Court
Mandated Community
Service, Jessica will
be in contact with you
about the next
steps.
We hope you will
join us as a
volunteer at RCHS.
Many of our
volunteers have told
us how rewarding the
experience is and
all of our animals
tell us how much
they appreciate the
volunteers!
If you have any
questions about
volunteering, please
contact Jessica
Danyow at
802.483.9171 or
e-mail her.
